RECYCLED vs. REFILLED vs. REMANUFACTURED TONER CARTRIDGES

When it comes to remanufactured cartridges in the printing industry many companies use different terminology and quality standards in remanufacturing their products. Below is the breakdown of the differences in the way toner cartridges are remanufactured.

Recycled Toner Cartridges

The term recycled is a generic term that does not necessarily refer to the process or technology used to manufacture the product. It obviously indicates that the cartridge is not a new original cartridge but it has been produced reusing parts and materials. In other words, any cartridge that has been produced using parts and material recovered from a previously used cartridge can earn the name recycled, regardless of the process or technology used.

Refilled Toner Cartridges

We use the term refilled to indicate the remanufacturing process that consists mainly of gaining access to the toner or ink container of a cartridge (either puncturing a hole or partially disassembling the cartridge) and refilling it with new ink or toner. In most cases that is all that is done to the cartridge aside from inspecting it for obvious flaws and cleaning it. This is the process used by many small remanufacturing companies doing business mainly in the local area or shipped over from China. This simplified refilled process gives these companies the ability to price their products much lower than many competitors that sell remanufactured cartridges.

What’s wrong with that? Toner cartridges contain many small components inside other than toner. To rebuild a cartridge this way is relatively inexpensive but its quality and reliability are also compromised. The inside of a toner cartridge has an intricate process of components working together to make the cartridge last and work effectively. Many people that experienced problems with remanufactured cartridges and stopped using them have been using refilled cartridges all along without knowing these differences.

Remanufactured Toner Cartridges

Remanufactured cartridges are the types of cartridges we manufacture and sell here at FarraTech. Here is the process that goes into remanufacturing a FarraTech brand cartridge:

•Completely disassembled

•All components inspected, separated and cleaned

•New drum installed

•New wiper blade installed

•New magnetic roller installed

•New primary charge roller installed

•Toner container filled with new toner to original OEM specifications

•Toner container sealed with a pull-out strip to prevent leakage

•Cartridge reassembled and tested on proper equipment

As a result all of our cartridges are rebuilt from the ground up to give you, our customer, the same quality and reliability you expect for your valuable printer and copier equipment. We guarantee every cartridge we manufacture unconditionally, in writing. If one of our own manufactured cartridges fails, we will replace it. No questions asked!
